Greece needs to return to normality in order to exit the memoranda, ND’s Staikouras says

In order to achieve an essential exit from the memoranda and not a typical one, there should be a return to normality, main opposition New Democracy (ND) shadow finance minister Christos Staikouras said on Wednesday in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) radio station Praktoreio 104.9 FM.

He added that one cannot talk about return to normality when capital controls have not yet been lifted, competitiveness has fallen, new taxes will be imposed in 2018 and 2019, pensions will be further cut, scientists are leaving the country, part-time jobs are on the rise, outstanding provate debts have increased and the country does not participate in quantitative easing (QE).

“The return to normality is a government delusion,” he stressed.

After the conclusion of the second program review, economic indices have improved compared to their lowest levels; however, they still remain lower than the 2014 levels, Staikouras noted, adding that unfortunately Greece has not met the 2017 development targets.
