Gov’t tables amendment to help domestic defence industry take on subcontracting projects

Government ministers on Tuesday tabled an amendment that sidesteps certain requirements for the import of goods, in order to assist the local defence industry in carrying out a programme to modernise and upgrade the Navy’s P3B naval cooperation aircraft as part of a Greek-U.S. agreement (LOA GR-P-GLI).

According to the reasoning attached to the amendment, it is deemed necessary for the unobstructed assignment of sub-contracting work to the local defence industry, which direly needs to take on programmes that will increase its turnover, while also providing jobs and valuable knowhow.
