Giorgos Markopouliotis will probably be the new head of the European Commission Representation to Greece, said European sources.
Markopouliotis served in the same position in 2001-2005 and since 2012 has been head of the European Representation in Cyprus.
He played a key role in the negotiations for the solution of the Cyprus issue, something that was deeply appreciated by European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker, said the same sources.
Markopouliotis has served in European Commissioners’ offices and was director of former European Commissioner Maria Damanaki’s office.
He speaks English, German, French and Spanish.
Markopouliotis will succeed Panos Karvounis.
