Greek stocks rebounded in the Athens Stock Exchange on Thursday

Greek stocks rebounded in the Athens Stock Exchange on Thursday, after a two-day decline, pushing the general index of the market near the 780-point level once again. The index rose 0.61 pct to end at 779.05 points, off the day’s highs of 780.84 points.

The Large Cap index rose 0.46 pct and the Mid Cap index ended 0.80 pct higher. Turnover was low 44.910 million euros in volume of 45,262,237 shares. Viohalco (2.86 pct), National Bank (2.82 pct) and Piraeus Port (2.79 pct) scored big gains among blue chip stocks, while Ellaktor (2.10 pct), GEK Terna (1.67 pct) and Coca Cola HBC (1.49 pct) suffered heavy losses. Among market sectors, Industrial Products (1.75 pct), Banks (1.71 pct) and Utilities (1.54 pct) scored big gains, while Food (1.44 pct) and Constructions (0.63 pct) suffered losses. Piraeus Bank and National Bank were the most heavily traded securities of the day. Broadly, advancers led decliners by 57 to 37 with another 22 issues unchanged. Moda Bagno (28.71 pct), Nereus (21.30 pct) and Pegasus (19.91 pct) were top gainers, while Intertek (29.92 pct), Lanakam (19.80 pct) and Leventeris (19.27 pct) were top losers.

ADEX closing report

The June contract on the FTSE/ASE Large Cap index was trading at a discount of 0.09 pct in the Athens Derivatives Exchange on Thursday. Volume on the Big Cap index totaled 2,133 contracts with 7,088 open positions in the market. Volume in futures contracts on equities totaled 65,198 contracts with investment interest focusing on Piraeus Bank’s contracts (22,838), followed by Alpha Bank (4,412), National Bank (17,285), Eurobank (4,304), MIG (3,784), OTE (743), PPC (952), OPAP (126), Hellenic Exchanges (119), Titan (145), Viohalco (1,949), Mytilineos (2,111), Hellenic Petroleum (865), GEK Terna (243), Ellaktor (865), Intralot (310), Athens Water (263), Terna Energy (604), Folli Follie (179) and Cenergy (3,348).

Greek bond market closing report

The yield spread between the 10-year Greek and German benchmark bonds widened slightly to 5.83 pct from 5.80 pct in the domestic electronic secondary bond market on Thursday, with the Greek bond yielding 6.08 pct (6.05 pct on Wednesday) and the German Bund yielding 0.25 pct. There was no turnover in the market.

In interbank markets, interest rates were largely unchanged. The 12-month rate rose to -0.134 pct from -0.135 pct, the nine-month rate was -0.189 pct, the six-month rate fell to -0.264 pct from -0.263 pct, the three-month rate was -0.335 pct and the one-month rate fell to -0.379 pct.
